Should dishwasher be connected to garbage disposal?
Typically, kitchen plumbing does not include a drain line for dishwashers. For this reason, dishwashers install under the counter top next to the sink cabinet, with a drain hose through the side of the cabinet. The dishwasher pumps discarded water and food particles through the hose and into the garbage disposal.
Can you put a garbage disposal on a single drain sink?
A garbage disposal can be installed in either a single kitchen sink or on one half of a double sink with a strainer basket in the drain of the second half of the sink. You can install a garbage disposal in a single sink in a couple of hours with some basic hand tools.

Why is my garbage disposal backing up into my dishwasher?
Many dishwashers discharge drain water through the garbage disposal in the adjacent kitchen sink. If the disposal is clogged with food debris, dishwasher drain water may back up through the drain line. After 15 minutes, follow that with a pan or two of boiling hot water to flush the drain. Check the air gap.
Can a dishwasher and garbage disposal be on the same circuit?
– The garbage disposal and dishwasher each require 12/2 wire. – A 20A, 120V, 2 pole circuit breaker should be used, one breaker for the dishwasher and one for the disposal. 2 pole, so if a repair is needed at the outlet, both circuits are turned off, for safety. – One split-tab receptical is placed under the sink.
